History of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church was organized in 1880 with approximately nine members who, from Pilgrim Baptist Church, decided they wanted a church located nearer to their homes. One-half acre of land was donated and the church started as a brush arbor. It was referred to as
“Buck Arbor”. Later, a small rough building was constructed. After some years, a frame building was constructed and later the frame building was weather boarded and ceiled. In 1919, this building was lengthened by twelve feet, In march of 1938, a new building was erected. In April of 1961, additional Sunday School rooms, a well and restrooms were added. In January of 1965, the church voted to remodel the sanctuary and to add a choir loft. Also, at this time, new benches for the auditorium and choir were purchased along with new windows for the sanctuary. In November of 1980, the church voted to construct a new building and construction began in February of 1981. The first service was held in the new building in July of 1981. A fellowship building located beside our church was completed in September of 2004.
